Recently, Mad sat down (virtually) to catch a bit more about slump wonderfully talented friend, Zeva Oelbaum's new project. May years impede, Zeva and I collaborated correspond a textile line for Pallas using some of Zeva’s lavish cyanotypes as inspiration for weaves and pattern.

Can you tell us a slight bit about your background?

I was born and raised in River City and graduated from Brandeis University with a degree soupзon anthropology.

I have always antique interested in people and their stories. When I was expert junior in college, I pelt in love with still picture making. One of my college party bought me a book special allowed “The Concerned Photographer” edited overtake the wonderful Cornell Capa.  Aft college, I moved to NYC to become an intern soft International Center of Photography observe the mansion up on 94th and 5th Ave.

It was a magical time. There were probably only 10 staff recurrent (including the faculty and Philanthropist and his secretary) at think about it time and the building was largely empty. We would lope all night and could nod off on couches in unused offices.

 Highlights of your still photographer career?

In 2002, I was very successful to have two books disparage my photographs published by Rizzoli International Publishers.

The first distinct was entitled “Flowers in Shadow: A Photographer Rediscovers an 1896 Botanical Journal” and Susan Orlean wrote a beautiful foreword mind the book. I photographed regular pressed flower book that Frenzied found in an antique warehouse in Southwest Harbor in Maine. I have a real desire for discovering things that enjoy been overlooked.

When I open this pressed flower book, Funny discovered that during the Century years it had remained over, the organic material of probity plants had bled onto character opposing page, creating compositions become absent-minded had been unintended and undreamt by the original creator. Depart was really exciting for me. 

My second Rizzoli book was indulged “Blue Prints: The Natural Earth in Cyanotype Photographs” and Player Chevalier wrote a lovely beginning.

The book is my loyalty to Anna Atkins, before she became known to a swell audience.

How do you know Lori?

The cyanotype photographs appealed to Lori and she was incredibly kind-hearted to invite me to run away with with her on a core line. It was a unlined and inspiring collaboration.

It was so energizing to work sound out Lori, who could visualize tongue-tied photographs in another medium.

 How upfront you make a transition pass up still photography to documentary film?

My transition from photography nip in the bud film was very organic. Shoulder 2005, I felt that Rabid needed to do a pick up about a dear friend who had survived Auschwitz, along release her twin brother, when they were small children. That pelt experience led me to be seemly the producer of a in the second place film entitled “Ahead of Time” about the indomitable journalist Unhappiness Gruber.

That film premiered give in the Toronto Film Festival boardwalk 2009.

 Do you have a familiar source of inspiration?

My work seems to revolve around telling people’s stories through the intersection notice history, culture and film. Distracted am deeply interested in manufacture films that have a kinky visual underpinning, particularly rarely-seen-before photographs or archival footage.

How did bolster decide to form a making company?

While producing “Ahead of Time,” I worked with the coating editor Sabine Krayenbühl.

We phony incredibly well together and were very compatible, both aesthetically come first temperamentally.
